Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais Method® is internationally recognized for its remarkable ability to access the power of the nervous system to create positive change and the improvement of functioning through the medium of physical movement.
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, the founder of this innovative somatic approach to human understanding and learning, developed this system which can be used to help both oneself and others.
This humanistic approach to growth and change has demonstrated the ability to improve posture, flexibility, coordination, self-image and to alleviate muscular tension and pain.
The Feldenkrais Method® is an integration of movement science, brain research and psychology which is practiced in two effective and versatile applications as Functional Integration and Awareness Through Movement.

“I recommend the Feldenkrais Method® to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain. I find it to be much more useful than standard physical therapy. I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method can help all of us feel more comfortable in our bodies.”

Individual Sessions: Functional Integration®

  1. Each Functional Integration is designed to meet your personal needs. It's a hands-on form of tactile, kinesthetic communication.
Communicating through gentle touch and movement, the practitioner guides you in your process of self-discovery. With this gentle non-invasive contact Functional Integration helps to improve the function of the nervous, muscular and skeletal systems. At the core of the Feldenkrais method is a state of mind that fosters a process of awareness and inquiry.

Group Classes: Awareness Through Movement®

  1. Awareness through Movement (ATM) classes consist of a series of gentle movements which are verbally directed, exploratory in nature and involve thinking, sensing, feeling and imagining. Many are based on developmental movements and ordinary functional activities. Some are based on more abstract explorations of joint, muscle and postural relationships.
They help clarify the full range of possibility for human movements and action and facilitate a positive feeling of physical and emotional well being.
Students learn at their own pace, in a non-competitive environment. By utilizing the inherent intelligence of the nervous system, each person discovers new ways of using themselves with more ease, grace, and power.

Dr. Feldenkrais studied at the Sorbonne in Paris , France , where he earned a doctorate in engineering and assisted the eminent Dr. Frederic Joliot-Curie (Nobel Prize Laureate and nuclear physicist) in early nuclear energy research. He also studied with Professor Jigoro Kano, the founder and developer of Kodokan Judo and was one of the first Europeans to earn black belt status in this martial art. He became a celebrated Judo teacher and wrote several books which provided scientific explanations of Judo principles.

With this extensive range of knowledge in movement, learning theories, linguistics, biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, athletics and systems theory, Dr. Feldenkrais made revolutionary discoveries regarding consciousness, movement and human functioning.
